The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes: Dream Cast (Part 1)

Hellooooooooo. If you haven’t noticed already, Si’ Between the Lines is a Hunger Games stan account. I have already reviewed the book but I have plenty more to share in regard to my love for the books and movies. Which leads me directly into today’s topic. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes was just released on May 19th of 2020 and Lionsgate has already confirmed that there will be a movie version put into production.

This has been super exciting for me as I have been able formulate my own ideas for how the cast will look and be portrayed. For both the Twilight and Hunger Games franchises, I knew what the cast looked like before reading the books, and so that’s exactly how I saw them while reading. This time around I got to see things my own way, which has inspired me to put together a dream cast for the movie based on my own perceptions of the characters in TBSS.

Continue reading for my first set of ideal actors for the upcoming movie!

1. Zendaya (As Lucy Gray Baird):

Zendaya has always been one of my favorite celebrities for as long as I can remember. Being around the same age and having similar ethnic backgrounds has made her my primary source for representation on the big screen. While reading TBSS I was keen to the several mentions of Lucy Gray having curly hair, and that was all it took for me to believe that she could look like me.

I think Zendaya would do a fantastic job playing Lucy Gray. We know she can sing, we know she can dance, and we know she will rock any piece of fabric you drape over her, including Lucy Gray’s iconic rainbow ruffles. That’s what we call bad bitchery people. And I love seeing a bad bitch doing bad bitch things. If you still don’t believe me, just take a look at the picture I chose. Is it not giving Lucy Gray Baird?? Come on people, Zendaya got her Emmy now let’s get her this Oscar okay!?

2. Cody Fern (As Coriolanus Snow):

Cody Fern isn’t an actor that I know very well, so I cannot credibly rate his overall acting ability, but what I do know is that mans can serve some face. When I was thinking of who I would cast as the Younger snow I wasn’t entirely sure until I got the help of Twitter. A lot of people were already talking about Fern as a potential candidate and once I saw the picture below I was 100% convinced. Does he not radiate Capitol glam here? Just imagine his hair icier and blonder. I don’t know about you all, but I would love to see it.

3. J.K. Simmons (As Dean Highbottom):

This one was a no-brainer to me because my boyfriend was really into the movie Whiplash around the time I was reading TBSS. J.K Simmons was the immediate visual I had while reading Dean Highbottoms character. They would just have to zhuzh him up with a little makeup so that he can look strung out and tired. I also didn’t realize that J.K. Simmons was the Farmer’s Insurance guy until coming up with this cast, but once I did, I knew it would be the perfect picture to use to show that he can pull off the dean attire.

Fun Fact: J.K. Simmons also plays the voice of Tenzin, the son of Ang, in The Legend of Korra.

4. Stanley Tucci (As Lucky Flickerman):

I had to do this one by default as we can assume that Lucky Flickerman is the father of Caesar Flickerman from the original books. Since this is one of the few opportunities to keep a beloved Hunger Games actor in the prequel, I stand behind Tucci being recast for TBSS. Of course his attire and personality will be adjusted to fit the times, but that won’t be a difficult task for him to pull off.

5. Anya Taylor-Joy (As Tigris Snow):

This next one is completely biased as I have been utterly enthralled by The Queen’s Gambit series on Netflix. I love all things Kentucky, so of course I was into it right off the bat. As I mentioned before I love seeing bad bitches doing bad bitch things, and that’s all Taylor-Joy did in her role as Beth Harmon. But anyways, I think that Anya has very cat-like features and could pull off Tigris’ character very well. I even think that her speaking voice would make a great match for the role.

I know that there are more than plenty of roles left to cast but I will stop here for today. Stay tuned along the way as I continue to share my dream cast for the upcoming movie. Next I’m thinking I’ll cast either the tributes or the mentors.

I would love to hear your own ideas and suggestions for The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes movie. Leave a comment below to share your thoughts.

Happy reading friends, and may the odds of our dream cast coming true be in our favor!
